If I have to call emergency services, what information should I be prepared to provide?
- Your name
- Telephone number from where the call is being made
- Exact location or address of the emergency
- A description of the victim’s condition, what happened to cause the injury, how many people are involved and what aid has been administered.
- DO NOT HANG UP until the dispatcher has hung up; the dispatcher may be able to provide instructions on what you can do to help the victim. (22)
How can I prepare for an emergency?
The best time to prepare for an emergency is before it happens. After you fill out the Emergency Contact Sheet on the next page, make copies of it and keep it near each phone in your house. Update the sheet when necessary and be sure to let family, babysitters and others know that it is available. (23)
